Marker gene analysis

Marker genes

Marker genes are specific DNA regions used to identify the presence of microbes in metagenomics samples. These marker genes are either characterized by a highly variable region used to distinguish microbes (→ 16S marker gene sequencing), or the pure presence or absence of a set of microbe specific genes (and gene variation) is used to detect microbes of interest (→ MLST Multilocus sequence typing).
